Experimental works and collaborations with Machine Learning , Artificial Intelligence, & 3-d printing
Research / Artist Statement
In exploring the convergence of art, technology, and intuition, I am delving into the use of generative AI to create images based on original photographic captures, patterns and data. This research has lead to a project in which I am collaborating with darkroom & digital photography, generative AI, and 3-d printing, in order to create images that blend human intuition, visual aesthetics, and computational creativity.
By exploring photography as sculpture, I am creating an immersive experiences that blends the visual and tactile aspects of sculpture with the captured images. Furthermore, I am incorporating natural materials (such as real birds) and organic elements into photographic sculptures, reinforcing the biophilic connection. Biophilia is a term coined by biologist Edward O. Wilson to describe the innate human tendency to seek connections with nature and other living systems. By integrating these natural elements, I am enhancing a sensory experience that evoke a strong sense of connection with the natural world.
The aves (bird) photographs were created from original photographs of birds throughout the Palouse region in Eastern Washington State. My passion for birds-their beauty, songs, habitats, and more are reflected in these images. The images are generated from real birds and in their real habitat. These images are a celebration of aves, while also a commentary on the increasing fusion of biology and technology, which has a been a persistent theme throughout all my works.
Through these explorations, I have created an artist project that showcases the interplay between machine learning and human intuition, the fusion of design principles with photographic art, the transformation of photography into sculptural forms, and the boundless possibilities of creative play within the realm of photography.
